Electrical troubles can be really difficult to diagnose, but HRS AutoCare has the tools and the experience to get to the root of the problem. Here’s how you can tell your car’s electrical system might not be working properly.
Your Car’s Accessories Aren’t Working Properly
It’s liberating to be able to plug just about any accessory into your car and use it on the go, but electrical problems might make that more difficult than it should be. When your electrical system isn’t working right, your plug-in accessories might not power on or they might seem as if they’re malfunctioning. You might even think that there’s something wrong with the device, rather than your car’s electric system.
The Headlights Are Dimmer than They Should Be
Your car has subtle ways of letting you know that some things aren’t working properly. When you turn on your headlights, do they seem dimmer than usual? If you think they are, you probably aren’t imagining it. It’s easy to play that off as something else, but it’s likely due to issues with your electrical system.
Your Battery Terminals Have Corrosion
Corroded battery terminals are never a good sign. If you’re seeing this, it indicates that there’s a leak in your battery. Your battery is a big part of your car’s electrical system, so when it isn’t working properly, the whole electrical system could have issues. The problem may only be the battery for now, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have other problems quickly.
You’re Smelling a Burning Smell
Burning smells are always a bad sign. If you start your car and you smell something burning, that’s your cue to turn the car off and to get it to a shop right away. Usually when you smell a hot, burning smell that’s the insulation around the wiring that is quite possibly melting. Continuing to drive is only going to do more damage.
You Can’t Start Your Car at All
Finally, a big indication of electrical issues is that you can’t get your car started at all. This happens when the battery is completely tapped out and can’t get the starter to crank the engine. Once the battery engages the starter and the alternator is running, you’re usually on your way. But problems in the electrical system can mean that the battery doesn’t get recharged while you’re driving, meaning it can’t do its job.
