Five Things You Should Really Keep in Your Car

HRS AutoCare • April 1, 2022

April is Car Care Month, which makes it a fantastic time to think about what you might need in your car in case of emergency. These ideas from HRS AutoCare can get you started.

Paperwork You Might Need

There’s a lot of paperwork that goes along with being a car owner and operating said car. You also might want to keep some things in the car like repair receipts and the owner’s manual. Other paperwork you definitely need includes information about your car insurance, the car’s registration, and any other documents that pertain to the car or to ownership of the car.

Safety Equipment

Safety equipment is a must, especially since you never know when you might need it. A flashlight or two, along with spare batteries, is really important. Having reflective triangles and even flares can also be important in case you break down at night. It might also be a good idea to keep a reflective vest in the car that you can put on if you need to get out of the car.

A Set of Tools

Even if you don’t know much at all about repairing your car, it can be a good idea to put a small toolkit in the car. A few wrenches, a screwdriver, and other things you might need like a tire gauge and tools for tire issues are all handy. Keeping small bottles of spare fluids can be a good idea, too. You may not need these things often, but when you do need them it’s helpful to have them ready to go.

Jumper Cables or a Battery Jumper

Few things are more frustrating than having your car’s battery die on you. If you’re prepared with jumper cables or even a battery jumper, you have options. Getting your battery tested regularly can help you to avoid having to use these solutions.

Food, Water, and Extra Clothes

Having some additional items on hand for comfort can also be tremendously helpful. Things like water, non-perishable food, and an extra set of clothes can make a difficult situation a lot easier to manage. You’ll want to swap out the food and water periodically to make sure it doesn’t go bad. And you’ll probably want to add hand warmers in colder weather and different clothes for hot weather than in cold weather.

And the best way to make sure your car has what it needs in Car Care Month is to call us at HRS AutoCare in Nicholasville, KY for all of your service and repair needs. We’ll make sure that your car is ready to go.
