3 Ways You Can Protect Your Car From a Break In

HRS AutoCare • May 1, 2022

Having your car broken into is something no driver wants to experience, as it can not only leave you feeling stressed and violated, but it can also leave you with a huge financial burden between the cost of repairs and replacing any stolen items. And while there is no way to guarantee that your car will never be broken into, there are some steps that you can take to help protect your car and your valuables.

Always Lock Your Doors

The first step to protecting your vehicle and belongings from break ins and theft is make sure all the doors are securely locked. While this may seem like an obvious first step, most vehicle break ins occur when a car is left unlocked or windows are left rolled down, as most potential thieves won’t always want to go through the trouble of breaking a window to get into your car.

Park In a Covered, Well Lit Area

Places like parking garages and parking decks are optimal places that provide the most protection for your vehicle against potential break ins. Unfortunately, these areas might not always be available to you, especially if you live in a densely populated urban area that only has access to street parking. If that’s the case for you, always try and park somewhere that’s well lit and as close as possible to your destination for the most protection.

Hide All of Your Valuables

When your valuables are hidden away from view of the windows, you’re less likely to have your car broken into and your items stolen. And while it’s always wise to carry things like phones, cameras, tablets, and laptop computers with you, there are times when you need to store valuables in your car. In those cases, make sure to keep them either hidden in the back seat or trunk of your car, and cover them with a blanket, jacket, towel, or other covering for extra protection.
